Surprising to me; Werribee, Victoria has some wonderful landscapes to photograph, Werribee K Cliffs near the Werribee Zoo is one of them. I had been wanting to capture the Werribee K Cliffs for such a long time, and each time I had gone to the location I couldn’t quite get the composition I wanted. The composition was always filled with too much details that became distracting. On this occasion I thought I would re-attempt the location, I remember setting up my camping chair and camera equipment while I waited for the sun to set. just 5 minutes prior to the sun setting below the horizon a man approached the location with a blue tongue lizard that he had found on his property and came to release at this location. He handed me the lizard and asked if I would release it, I did.
When I turned around I noticed the sky starting to really light up and this log poking from the cliff edge, I changed my camera setup at the last minute and was left with this amazing beautiful shot of Werribee K Cliffs.
Originally I was composed for the view to the right of this image in a landscape orientation, yet the change in composition and orientation gave the perspective I was looking for. Something not planned but noticed at the last moment.
The weather was so calm and still, and there was no sound as the sun started to set. I remember thinking how different the landscape looked in this light as apposed to at other times throughout the day. Werribee K Cliffs has a real Australian bush land feel to it and it really reminded me of the 1990's family movie “A Land Before Time” which was a dinosaur cartoon based movie. I could just imagine large dinosaurs once roaming around this location in Werribee once upon a time.
Next time I will attempt a sunset from the ground, capturing the cliffs and Werribee river from an alternate perspective. There are some old dead trees that give a unique look that I have been trying to capture in all there glory. In the meantime, I hope you enjoy this photograph of Werribee K Cliff
